Taking on the Yakezie Alexa Challenge
As of today, I will be taking on the Yakezie challenge extended by Sam, the Financial Samurai.
In short, this is a 6-month challenge designed to help participants to network with other financial bloggers and ultimately increase the Alexa rank on your blog. The Alexa rank is a popular metric used to determine the popularity and traffic of a particular site. Here is what the challenge entails:
- Installing the Alexa Toolbar
- Writing 2-4 posts per week
- Installing the Yakezie badge
- Announcing that you have joined the challenge
- Promoting and building relationships with other finance bloggers
Why I am taking up this challenge
My blog Million Endeavour has been up and running for almost 3 years now. Throughout this period, it has seen many up and downs. There have been times where posting has slowed down and it appears that readership has decreased from its peak.
I am unsure as to why that is the case but I do suspect that there are many people out there who do not share my vision or disapprove of the decisions that I make such as taking up a part-time job.
In any case, I would like to start rebuilding the audience and I am committed not only to my finance journey but also to delivering value. I believe that by taking up this challenge, I will have the opportunity to network with other finance bloggers and work towards that common goal.
My biggest obstacle in this challenge
I can already tell that it is going to be very difficult for me to write at least 2 posts a week. Many of you may already know that my posts are not very consistent but I am hoping that all of this could change. It is my goal to start molding a habit of regular postings each week. I know that this challenge will give me a good reason to start doing that.
My current stats
As of today my Alexa rank is 5,872,687 and the goal is to get it to under 1 million by the end of the 6 months. For some odd reason I can’t see my US rank but I think that is because I live in Canada. I will look into this further to see if I can get the toolbar to show me my US rank.
Moving forward
I hope that at the end of this challenge, I would be able to improve my Alexa rank into under 1 million. I am committed to this challenge and will try my best to give back to the community as much as I can. If you would like to collaborate, I welcome you to contact me and let me know what you have in mind.
I also would like to invite you to take on this challenge as well as I believe this to be an excellent opportunity!
Some of the bloggers who have most recently taken up this challenge as well are: Investment Hunting, The Millennial Budget and Finance Superhero.
Hey Jeff, good luck with the challenge. Quite a few people are taking it up recently, I think we’ll be doing the same as well in the not-too-distant-future.
I think you’re going to smash it with the Alexa rank, I know you’ll do well 🙂
Tristan
Thank you Tristan! I look forward to if you decide to take up the challenge as well!
Thanks for adding my link in your post. As you know I’ve been working on my Alexa ranking this year with decent results. I too just started the Yakezie challenge.
What I’ve been doing so far which has helped a bunch is to visit blogs I’ve never been to before and making a few meaningful comments. This has accomplished a few things: 1 – Those blog authors are visiting my site and some are coming back. 2 – Some of those blogs readers are visiting me through my comment link and coming back. 3 – I’m getting more links into my site, which has helped to increase my ranking.
Best of luck.
Thanks for the tip! I will keep track of your progress on the challenge as well!
