Net-Worth Update December 2015: $36,941 (+$2,463/+7.1%)
Happy holidays everyone!
I can’t believe that 2015 is almost over. Although progress was a little slow this year due to personal issues, I look forward to a brand new start in 2016. With that being said, I will do a more thorough review of my financial progress at a later time.
In the meantime, December was a month where I had spent more than anticipated. The only reason why I wasn’t in the red was because I had use my bonus from work to make these purchases as opposed to dipping into my chequing account.
Anyhow, here is the breakdown of my numbers for this month:
Assets: $53,653 (+6.3%)
Cash: $9,917
- I am still trying to recover the balance from my orthodontic treatment that I had decided to undergo last month. Although it was hefty price to pay, I believe that it would be worthwhile once I have straight teeth.
TFSA: $40,235 (-0.1%)
- There is nothing major to report in terms of my TFSA portfolio as some days the value went up and on others it went back down.
- The majority of my portfolio is still invested in the energy sector. I will be looking to sell them when they reach back to the original book value.
- I am also in the process of creating a short-list of stocks where I will only be making my purchases from now on.
RRSP: $1,225 (-7.6%)
- The Canadian index fund in my RRSP is performing very poorly and I don’t think that there will be any recovery soon due to the recession.
- My contributions to the RRSP will be towards the U.S index fund from now on.
Pension Contribution: $2,376
- No update.
Liabilities: $16,712 (+4.6%)
Student Loan: $15,737
- Still chipping away on my student loan. I have no immediate plan to repay it in a lump sum anymore.
Credit Card: $975
- As it is the holiday season, I had spent more than I would normally on various things. In this month, I had purchased a new laptop, ate out more than I usually do and went on a vacation with the family.
Total Net-Worth: ~$36,941 (+$2,463/+7.1%)
